YASD: easy play build

Postby Sandman25 » Sat Jan 16, 2016 6:29 pm

Easy play build here means easy decisions, not easy fights :)
First, I recruit everything I meet, removing the oldest demon if necessary (from slot b).
Second, I learn every ability I am prompted, it should be fun to try them all.
Third, I am a buffer so I put all points into Vitality (here I assume buff duration doesn't depend on any stat)
And finally, I don't care much if my demons die. I lost 4 demons already ;)
I can concentrate on improving tactics here since I see I have serious problems with it too.

Multiple buffs mean I can pick the best demon for a specific fight and improve it a lot though it does not work that great in practice, I often have to unsummon the demon right after applying 3rd buff because it got wounded too serious.

Yeah, a heavy buffing strategy really needs either strong healing or lots of draining attacks so that you can get the most out of your investment. SP management can be important too, both for the guy flinging buffs (which are a bit expensive) and for anyone receiving the Haste buff (speeds up turns, but not SP recovery, which can lead to demons running out of SP and just basic attacking with those extra turns)

Why is healing that important? The buffs mean that the fight will be over sooner with getting less damage, right?
I definitely see the issue with SP as you predicted.

That was fast death. 4 brutal Jiang Shi and a Freybug on Tower 1 & 1/2 is a bit too much IMHO. I guess I should have retreated immediately instead of trying to kill them (though I did kill most of them).

Edit. I will stop spamming the forum for now, I am almost out of ideas anyway ;)

With regards to healing, it isn't actually a sure thing fights will be over more quickly.

After all, the buffs themselves take turns to cast and SP to cast. In theory, the character doing that could have been a nuker throwing nukes instead.

So why use buffs instead of nukes? Long-term strength. Over a longer fight, the buffs provide much, much more effect than a single nuke. But, in order to keep a buffed character out for a long time, they'll need healing (and SP recovery, if they're going to be useful during that extended period.) Buffing can be a key strategy for overcoming long fights, whether that's with enemy groups that include strong healing or enemy summoners who, like yourselves, have plenty of reinforcements to bring into play.

Yes, you are right of course. By the way is Speed buff shorter duration than Might/Accuracy? It seems so from my limited experience.

Yeah, Speed and Slow don't last as long as the other stat buffs/debuffs, since their effects are much stronger.

I finally found an easy build.
Code: Select all
Crown of Glory,
selected Light and Healing

1) Crusader Slash (Type: Slash, 10 SP. 70 Power attack. Has a 50% chance to inflict Guilt, healing those who damage the target (excluding reactions).)
2) Throat Slash (Type: Slash, 10 SP. 70 Power attack. Has a 35% chance to inflict Mute, which prevents the use of non-physical abilities.)
3) Soothing Cut (Type: Slash, 20 SP. 70 Power attack. Also grants a 105 Power heal to you or a nearby ally whose HP is more than 50% of their maximum.)

Code: Select all
is currently at Anomaly:1,
and is quite dead!

--==== Main Character ===--

Name : SandmanXXV
Level: 5
MaxHP: 60
MaxSP: 100

Strength: 15
Magic   : 7
Vitality: 24
Agility : 15
Cunning : 14

Resist: Light
Weak  : Dark

Abilities Known:
1) Crusader Slash (Type: Slash, 10 SP. 70 Power attack. Has a 50% chance to inflict Guilt, healing those who damage the target (excluding reactions).)
2) Throat Slash (Type: Slash, 10 SP. 70 Power attack. Has a 35% chance to inflict Mute, which prevents the use of non-physical abilities.)
3) Soothing Cut (Type: Slash, 20 SP. 70 Power attack. Also grants a 105 Power heal to you or a nearby ally whose HP is more than 50% of their maximum.)
4) Reshape (Type: Healing, 0 SP. Removes all negative status effects, then applies a 125 Power heal. Free action. Cooldown: Endure (5))
5) Tormentor (Type: None, Passive. Restores 5 SP when you deal damage to one or more characters that have negative status effects.)
6) Yellow Whisper (Type: Mind, 20 SP. 65% chance to inflict Panic, causing the target's actions to sometimes be randomized. Free action. Cooldown: Presence (8))
7) Pounce (Type: Slash, 15 SP. Must target a character. Leap to the target with a 70 Power attack. Inflicts Stun, causing the target to miss their next turn. Cooldown: Charge (6))
8) Triad Ward (Type: Defense, Passive. Provides a 20% chance to block Fire, Ice, and Electricity attacks. This works even when Stunned, Paralyzed, etc.)

Extremely powerful, it's like starting with vampiric weapon, silence scrolls and multi-heal in DCSS :)

Your starting Haste/Might build reminded me- although it's very fragile, a Hasted and Mighted Raicho is amazing to behold. I could have taken this one to the end of the game if I hadn't ran it into a pack of Akateko...
