Antaeon and Artemis

Every time I trigger Antaeon quest (3 times so far), Artemis comes into view and either
1) kills Antaeon
2) is killed by my demons without a chance to be recruited because Antaeon quest is still active
3) kills me
Is it intended or am I just unlucky? Is it possible to prevent uniques (and probably other normally generated monsters) from wandering while protect quest is active? It is very frustrating and not easy even without extra monsters as of now.

The two are linked - Actaeon is a Greek mythological figure who was killed by the goddess, Artemis. Artemis only ever appears during a link attempt with Actaeon; and linking with her requires that you kill Actaeon. So you pretty much have to choose one or the other. She's not the only unique like this either, for that matter. I've never actually used Actaeon myself (though its possible to keep him alive with healing magic)....but Artemis is quite powerful.

Shadowdweller nailed it. The intent is that you pick one or the other to recruit, once Artemis shows up. A Gold Offering would let you get both, but you'd have to be incredibly lucky to find out in time for this.

The in-game lore for both hints at what's going on. It may not be a big enough hint if you haven't heard their story before though.

I must confess I changed settings to display stats page by default and I don't switch to lore text often, my English does not allow me to enjoy reading it
