The demon's level is actually not a factor at all. Soul Armor's cost has three major factors:
1) The player's current level.
2) The resistances, health modifier, and speed modifier granted by the new Soul Armor.
3) Your current resistances, health modifier, and speed modifier.
2 and 3 are actually the big ones here: if the gap between the overall quality of your current resistance table and the new one is huge, Soul Armor can be *very* expensive.
Note however, that this also means you can take an incremental approach to Soul Armor: a moderate upgrade now will reduce the cost of a future upgrade to a better Soul Armor result. It isn't 1:1, but having moderately better resists now might be better than waiting a very long time to save up for a huge jump all at once.
